“Things Change”
![]() |
As things are right now, with fewer members and each of us much busier, we decided to focus on what we like the most (and can do the best). This means, de facto, we will drop a few projects. Namely: Tough, and, Baka and Boing. Unfortunately, there isn’t much interest in them. Though both have a solid fan base, it seems no one really cares enough to do something to get the chapters done. In conclusion, no one is really working on it in our group and no guys applied to help us out either.
If anyone should be interested, we can still supply some Translations for Tough and the Volume 03 raws for Baka and Boing (just got our hands on it a few days ago). As for structural changes: From now on, we will work just on new manga which are bi-weekly/monthly or so (brand new titles). We will keep TriageX, Ageha and Suzuro’s Logfile. By the way, we just came to know that Suzuro’s Logfile is a quarterly series, which means we are actually up-to-date with it and you can expect chapter 02 soon. Also, we still plan to finish Wild School. Guess what we are waiting for? Yup, more raws. Same goes for Lequios. We hope you enjoyed our scans for Tough, as well as Baka and Boing, and hope you stick around to see what new manga we will bring you next. |

oh no ,I really enjoyed Tough.Shame no one helped you guys out.If i thought I could be any use I’d step up.
respect for the hard work and fingers crossed some one else picks it up…its a wicked manga.
Well, thanks for all your work so far on Tough in particular. I’ll keep sacrificing kittens in the hopes of resurrecting the project.
ARE YOU DROPPING TOUGH??? ARE YOU CRAZY???
I think it’s the main followed Manga here!!
Without Tough, even considering your hard work, the interest in this site completely disapperead.. you lost a fan of yours today.. forever..
I will miss Tough, thx for the releases you’ve done so far, it’s your project i like the most, i hope another group picks it
i cant believe your canceling tough, as the others above said, its the main project of yours that is followed the most….please, please don’t shut is down
BAKA TO BOING IS DROPPED?!
NOoooO~~~~~
T_T
Please don’t drop Tough!!!! It’s one of the only few manga out there that I actually follow!!!!
Damn, Tough is the only good martial arts manga with kohinata minoru atm thats worth to read. Thanks for the scans, hope you get back with Tough at some point.
ps. i will be sacrificing kittens aswell
Well i think it’s a wrong move to drop tough as well, i think it’s the main reason people come here – with that said, thanks for your hard work so far, it’s a pity you’re not going to finish it but who knows what the future will bring.. still gonna come back for ageha <3
That’s a real shame re tough. For the first series I was reduced to reading through French RAWs, using my 1st year college French… I though you guys did a great job on the translation… now I am going to be reduced to reading “Mon Dieu… cette technique… avec seulement ses doigts…c’est impossible!”
First let me correct one thing, since there is a wrong assumption. Tough was not one of our top Manga, on the contrary it actually was pretty much in the middle field. If we are at it, let me announce the hottest stuff we scanlate: “Those who chase the Ageha”.
But whatever, the thing is there are enough people out there who really are die hard Tough fans, still no one cares to do something. Well guess what, then nothing will happen… If I would want to eagerly read a Manga and scanlation is slow and/or the scanlation group has problems and needs help, I would do everything for it. Well, it just costs you 1-2 hours per week to have a new chapter in your hands. (one would assume that’s not too much…)
Anyway, we still have translations and raws, so anyone has become inspired can have that stuff.
I also second the notion that Tough was your most worthwhile project, I don’t read any other manga at all. Did the translator get bored of it?
Oh well, pretty much the same shit happened with KO-Scans back when they were doing Tough. Someone will pick it up again eventually.
Wow, kinda sad to know tough is gonna be dropped, hope it just ends being temporary, Nonetheless, thanks a lot guys for you hard work on Tough, and best of luck on your other projects.
This is a fucking bad day!!!!
Tough dropped??? The most amazing manga??
FUCK I AM SO DISSAPOOOINTED FUCK!!!
Anyway … still thanx for your hard work on it.
i hope some other scanlators will do Tough.
God i hope!
Dorry for all the FUCKS in this post, guys.
But i really feel fucking sad about this…
Goodluck with your other projects and thanx for giving me my tough fix.
DAMN GUYS!! Could you not see we are all here UNITED just for TOUGH and NOTHING ELSE!!
I’m really SO SORRY i can’t do any of the things you need, but have i to paid it with the complete cancellation of the series?!!!
WE ARE ALL HERE JUST FOR TOUGH
Dammnit, knew I should’ve applied that day.
anyways Rock-Bird, while your hostility is justified, you probably know it’s not a matter of snapping your fingers and learning japanese. I’m having a hard enough time with Zhongwen, but thanks for all you guys work, hopefully someone decides to spearhead the project again, at which point I’ll apply to help in some capacity.
Hey, hey, no one is being hostile here, its just as it is. It seems like there a lot of misunderstandings… We probably cant clear them all, but don’t forget that this is merely some fun, a hobby for us (we do what we like and then we share it with others. No one is a pro and no one gets anything for it).
(PS: Tough is a niche Manga, initially we wanted people to try and see that its much more then a simple fighting manga. But the most are biased and its hard to change that. Anyways, In the end if ya want something you have to do something for it.)
I like it how everyone is under impression that Tough is being dropped because S.A.S people grew tired of it and NOT because nobody wanted to apply and help working on it.
It’s like watching a car accident where everyone runs up and makes a circle just to watch and none steps in to help injured because “I won’t know what to do, but sure there will someone else step in and help”.
But as someone said when KO-Scans dropped Tough, it was picked up eventually, only took some 2 years for it to happen, so we can expect ch130 around 2012.
Things change indeed, I’m still quite shocked with the recent news, it’s just so hard to believe you guys are dropping Tough after all this time.
Call me crazy or whatever but I always thought this manga was considerably popular, especially among the seinen community…guess I was wrong.
Well, my best regards nonetheless, I really appreciate the work you did.
Just saw this post today and learned that you’re dropping Baka and Boing!?
To be honest, it was the only one of your projects that I followed and I’m sad to see it go as I thought you guys were doing a great job on it.
Well, I can only hope that another group picks it up as the story was getting more and more interesting as it went on.
Sorry guys that even when you announced you’re dropping Tough still not many people are offering to help (yes I know I’m one of those bastards).
I was first introduced to S.A.S through Tough, great manga and great scanlation group. Unfortunately this and Baka and Boing were the only two manga’s I followed
I’m currently learning a bit of french so hopefully in 5 or so years when I finish my degree and specialization I’ll get round to being good enough in french to read the rest of Tough (I doubt I’ll ever be good enough in Japanese to read RAWs)… Although secretly I’m hoping someone picks these series up before then
So I guess this is goodbye for now. All the best with the other projects and I hope you get more of a helping hand with them.
You guys rock and are as TOUGH as nails nonetheless! All the best!
It is sad about Tough, I am looking forward to more TriageX though. If you could tell me where you guys get the scans for Tough I’ll probably just read them from there. Thank you guys for all the hard work, maybe Wild Fang will pick it up.
Nitouryu: Not to start a flamewar, but your post lacks common sense. Tough had far more released chapters than all the other S.A.S. projects combined. Stopping abruptly almost certainly means someone who was previously working on Tough no longer prioritizes the series as highly as he did before. Maybe this is just my opinion, but just because a project lacks manpower, that certainly isn’t SOMEBODY ELSE’s fault. To make an equally strange analogy to yours, this is like if I had a shop somewhere in China, and it got robbed, and afterwards called my police officer brother an idiot for not stopping the robbery, even though he lives in LA.
(I mean this as no insult towards the S.A.S. staff, if any of you interpret my analogy as such.)
the thing is. if you pick up a series and scanlate it long enough so that it gets a following, you dont quit it. if you start it, end it. people enjoy reading what you do and then you just quit in the middle. by the way cool how you end it saying something like stay tuned for our new projects. damn i thought you just said that you dont have enough people for tough. i will stop following your releases because i dont believe in quitting halfway through. pathetic excuses.
P.S. Thanks for Tough. It truly was the best series this group did and will do.
Well I’m happy that you guys are still doing Ageha because that was the manga that got me to come and follow ya’ll and then I saw you guys was doing Tough so I read it and enjoyed it same thing with Baka and Boing. Thanks for even doing the project and I’m really excited to hear that ya’ll still doing Triage-X and all your other projects. Well good luck and god-speed on your future releases.
whaatt?? tough is the best ever..
Interesting talks, there would be to much things to address (as said all misunderstandings cant be cleared) so lets get to the once which are quite a laughing matter. First both analogies aren’t accurate, but qwerty yours sounds like randomly putting words next to each other, really funny (makes no sense at all, no offense though).
Anyway, bamboona are you a moron. Some of you must be plain stupid. Did you every stop a hobby, like for instance basketball and then you played instead football. So did ya fuckin’ quit halfway through…? It rather looks like your mixing up things here…
But hey, your to dumb to get it done yourself, right. So why not complain a little. Anyways, if ya really want it, all you gotta do is pay for it… That’s how it works (and when we all don’t have to do our work anymore and can live from it, we might consider it as our work and deal with it accordingly…)
Listen, qwerty. I completely agree with you, you made a very sound point.
In fact Rock-Bird stressed it out himself in News post first sentence “[...] we decided to focus on what we like the most.” He also later said “In the end if ya want something you have to do something for it.”
I will be blunt and rephrase what Rock said – scanlators don’t have any special Scanlator Degree, working license nor they have any special education in Visual arts. Scanlators = Fans. Nothing more and nothing less, just fans who want to read a specific manga and are willing to shave off 1-2 hours a week for it. Therefore in ESSENCE it is fans fault that ANY manga project gets stalled/dropped.
Magic formula: Scanlators start a project, cradle it for as long as they can, project fanbase grows, new people come in to help(see changing names in Credits pages) and thanks to that new chapters keep coming out.
But what do I know about social inner workings of scanlations, when I have only participated in releasing some 400~500 chapters and witnessed numerous project stalls/drops/revivals.
@RockBird:
“Those who chase Ageha” is your hottest stuff??
PLEASE! THAT’S RIDICOULOUS!!
Rock-Bird, you said you guys have the raws and the translations for Tough. If so, then can you send them to me so I can attempt to learn how to help. I don’t know Japanese or have access to the raws but if you guys have them already, let me see if I can attempt to clean up the scanlations.
What a relief someone nailed it, congrats Nitouryu. Though you knew it of course out of experience.
Seems like Jack knows more about scanlation, especially our projects, then we do ourselves. Maybe he asked Paul the psychic octopus – There is nothing any of us could/should add to that comment, lol.
Hey Jake, sure. We do not have the raws literally, but you should have received an email with all the details (plus some tutorials as an extra).
plz reconsider since tough is one of the best action-manga ever
Rock-Bird, no offense, dude, but you should learn some intelligible English before you start calling someone’s posts a mash of random words.
I don’t personally agree with Nitouryu’s train of thought on scanlations, but everyone’s entitled to their own. Imo, what the situation simply boils down to at its core is that if you stop in the middle of a fairly popular project, you shouldn’t act surprised when you get a fair amount of bitching.
Alright, I’m out, the atmosphere is starting to become really hostile, partly thanks to me.
i never started scanlating so truth be told it isnt my concern. you however did and clearly bit more than you could swallow. dont take it as if bashing your work, im thankful for the hard work that you guys put into releasing these chapters. but i just read 129 chapters and THEN get told, “tough shit but you wont get to know what happens in the end”. i played basketball and i quit, i however didnt quit in middle of a match.
I will pay someone 20 bucks a month for fast scanlated Tough manga. That is how much a fan I am for it.
I’m sorry qwerty didn’t meant to offend your English, you got me wrong there. I’m no one to speak, as you mentioned it. (I just wasn’t able to transfer your random, but still funny story to the scanlation scene. At least not in a way it would make sense to me…)
Hey bamboona, thanks for confirming your totally dumb. Unfortunately there is no medicine for stupidity, so we cant help you. (Oh, you didn’t become pro in basketball and quit on your team… that’s just awful, how could just quit something in the middle)
Okay last try for everyone else (trying to put Nitouryu’s words even simpler): fans do scanlate something since they badly want it (hence they are fans), if there are no fans or no fans do anything, nothing happens…
But before all that complaining and insulting, why don’t you ask yourself what you ever did give back to the scanlation scene? I mean getting everything for free seems not to be enough for you… It’s just disgusting. With all the hard work a lot of people put into this, the only thing you should be doing is being thankful!
rock bird you say so many things that make it sound like it was the fans fault that you end your projects early. and no i didnt become a pro at basketball, like many others who have played the sport. i however always knew that i wouldnt pursue that path in life. were you like me and knew at the start of scanlating Tough that you would never finish? if so it would have been nice to tell in advance. what did i do to the scanlating world. lol. still pushing your problems on the fans
EHHH… They ignored me…. 0_0′
Ey bamboona, you just topped everything in stupidity there is…
First, its not about fault, secondly scanlators = fans (so yeah, you just insult yourself, but you are probably still to dumb to get it). Okay now a big surprise for you, we’re actually not a publisher (no company). And here another one, while a Manga-Author does this for a living, fans/scanlators don’t do that (no fan sits there to work a lifetime on one thing, tops are a few years – so no one with brains would expect anything else, especially not since even companies cant manage that often. If you in your delusion were mislead then that’s really just your stupidity). So yeah, some fans start it, then things change, another fan continues it, things change again and so on unless there is no fan interested anymore (there are no guarantees in here); Ergo there is no one to blame. Well, did actually any of you read Nitouryu’s post, since he nailed it already?
Lemme try the basketball thing once again:
Okay so you quit the basketball team, but now they don’t have anyone as replacement. What happens is the team is short a player and cant play games anymore, cant compete. Still under the same name (school/group) the football team has enough members, the karate-club is just doing fine… and even new clubs are founded with lots of supporters (by fans for fans). But fans of the basketball team want to see more games and so they start to complain and insult… Though the guys at the team cant do anything about it. They are still one man short, its obvious and still they have to listen to all that bullshit… Imagine how they feel, how the captain feels. Yeah, they probably just want to rip those nut-heads apart. No fans are standing up to take the place… why? They seem not to care enough. (And here is the thing; The team which are just fans as well is not at fault but neither are all the other fans… its a simple state of how things are. No one wants to play basketball that badly. And if no one wants to play it, the club ceases to exists, even so a lot of people may be sad).
In this analogy (which cant be accurate as well) of course some skill would be required to play basketball (but one would assume at least one fan would be able to do so) which isn’t even the case for scanlation. Also one game is at the utmost one chapter (we always released full chapters. Actually we went all out to finish volume 12, dragging Tough along as dead weight. Now look at page 18 in chapter 129, you see there clearly three little letters – “END”).
This time I really went all out, I tried my best as did others, thanks for all the efforts. I must be an idiot as well with all the posts and explaining, lol. After all, I was the one who said there is no medicine for stupidity.
+1 to Tough support group.. only thing that made your team known, to me at least (via MH, before it died anyway)
oh well i live in france so i guess i’ll just buy the manga xD
Sad news, those you guys bring us today. I’ll really miss TOUGH, but that’s how fan projects work in the end. We can blame anyone but ourselves for not willing (or being able) to lend SAS a helping hand…
Anyway, being such a great manga, let’s hope we see it picked up again soon.
BTW, will you SAS guys upload the last completed volume to your site? Plus, the link for vol.7 leads to a corrupted archive (last 5 chapters missing from the volume). Would you be kind enough to reupload it?
Thanks, and good luck in your future projects!!
- Admin note: Yeah we will up v12 and correct v07 -
-
- Admin 2nd note; Done
I’m sure you’d like to wash your hands of this project, but I have one final request. Is there any way you can update your site to reflect news of another group that picks up Tough when/if the time comes? I realize that’s almost like promoting someone else s work, but seeing as how we’re all just fans…:)
Let me make myself clear, I am very appreciative of your work and will miss Tough, as well as your quality work, sorely.
Many kudos to the staff at SAS.
RIP Tough
- Admin note: Shouldn’t be a problem, we planed to do that anyway… (if possible we will also keep you updated when and who asks for stuff; For now one guy received raws.) -
I see that most of this discussion has centered around Tough, but I have to say I’m enormously disappointed that you’re dropping Baka to Boin. I’d been eagerly anticipating volume 3. I guess I understand why you aren’t continuing with it…but since it was the only project of yours I was following, I’ll be moving on. Thanks so much for your work.
Arrg no Baka and Boing, that was one of my favorite mangas. I hope that if you guys have time in the future that you will continue it but thanks for all the chapters so far, regardless.
I’m more bummed-out that nobody’s picking up AIKI, but yeah, B+B being dropped is still a pain.
- Admin note: To give you a glimmer of hope, actually we never officially dropped Aiki… (so who knows what might happen.) -
Sorry man, but I have to say that you’re stupid.
“Unfortunately, there isn’t much interest in them. Though both have a solid fan base, it seems no one really cares enough to do something to get the chapters done.”
These two sentence contradict themselves.
If it have a solid fan base, it can’t have little interest.
You even haven’t written anything about problems with Tough.
thank you 4 ur hard work, all of u SAS staff…THOUGH is the reason i like this site..if its okey..can u send me the raw to my email…maybe i can help it out..
thank you once again ^^ ganbatekudasai Rock-Bird
- Admin note: You will receive the details per mail as asked. -
